What is the Archos DVR Station?
The Archos DVR station basically is a device that connects to the Archos Media Player which is sold separately. They allow you to turn your media player into a DVR, when these devices are used together, while also charging up the player. As long as there’s nothing else being stored on the hard drive, you can store up to 160 GB of digital programming on the player. You can either watch it back on your television, once you’ve recorded a show, or on the go on the player itself.
You’ll be able to enjoy your favorite television shows while you’re commuting. This is one of the positives about this device that without having to pay the outrageous fees charged by Apple. But sure, that doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll be saving money on the deal as you’ll soon see.
The Set Up Cost
The overall price is not one of them. At Amazon, the Archos DVR Station itself costs $90. That’s very reasonable. To make the whole thing work, however, you’ll also need the media player for the newest generation device, which costs $300. Now to be fair you’ll also be able to use the player to listen to music, videos, and more. The price is a bit high though, to be compared to your other non-Archos DVR options.
For example, let’s compare the Archos DVR to TiVo, one of the first devices/services to allow you to record television shows easily. For this service, the average DVR costs between $150 and $250 at Amazon. Usually, you can use it to hold as much as 80 hours of programming or more. You do need to subscribe the service which is $12.95 per month. You can even transfer the shows you watch onto your much more portable with the service, and affordable iPod or other video-capable MP3 player, as well as to DVD players, other DVRs, and more.
The Archos DVR Station, at overall, may make good sense if you already own the matching media player. But if you don’t and you just want to start having an easy way, then consider the TiVo service instead, to record your favorite television shows. Or contact your local cable company about their DVR services then purchase your own player from Amazon.
