3. Many are free, others question for an optional donation if you want to give one, and some you have to pay or make some kind of donation to use it but most of these give you a free trial first. The majority of them are free though

You can find a ton of info on jailbreaking your iphone at http://rotilda.com
You can still get apps from the app pile and Cydia. Not all apps in Cydia are free but most are. Some developers give you a trial period then question you to pay.

WHAT I AM ABOUT TO TELL YOU IS GOING TO BLOW YOUR MIND!!
Jailbreaking an Iphone is the best business you can do WITHOUT A DOUBT you will not unhappiness it.
Once you jailbreak your Iphone there is a hack called ***INSTALLOUS***”PLEASE DONT TELL MANY PPL ABOUT IT AS it MIGHT GET SHUT DOWN OR BANNED OR SOMETHING.
iNSTALLOUS IS BASICALLY THE APPSTORE BUT ALL THE APPS WERE CRACKED (hacked so they are now free) Apps that cost over $30 are now free and same with the 99cent ones.
When you go to download the installous there are a few steps you have to take to get it.
You need Cydia to even get it and then you quest cydia for Installous.
The cydia apps are excellent but nowhere next to as excellent as the cracked apps from the app pile.
