What Does The “i” In Apple’s Ipod, Itunes, Iphone, Etc. Stand For?

September 23rd, 2009 Posted in FAQ

Is it just creative branding on Apple’s part, or does the “i” actually stand for something technical?

It started out with the iMac, meaning it was easy for people to get involved with the Internet. It also became somewhat synonymous with the Apple brand name, so the iPod came out. What also helped the iPod really be an Internet device was downloadable iTunes.
While the iPhone is also Internet capable, it’s no realy big distinction since that applies to most other cell phones, too. Still, i-Phone drew a huge audience almost solely on the Apple image.
You might consider it similar to the PC’s earlier (but not exclusive) tie-in with the Internet with such things as Email, E-commerce, etc as Electronic transactions rather than physical.
